Communication is an exchange of thoughts that take place between any two people or among larger number of people. Every person has a right to think, act and speak freely their own thoughts. However for the purpose of expanding one’s limited information exchange of ideas, debuts, discussions all help a person only by means of communication with a mixture of people. The term cross cultural communication refers to the communication that takes place between people of diverse cultures situated in the different parts of this whole wide world. Cultural differences exist due to a large number of reasons such as nationality, language, belief, borders, behavior and diverse cultures. For a harmonious existence of humans in this world, healthy cross cultural communication must be present so that mutual respect, love and understanding prevails among all populations and generations.
In the modern competitive world communication is required in any field be it business, education, health, entertainment, tourism and most importantly in the field of business. People from their native lands go far over to foreign lands for doing business and in such cases cross cultural communication is an essential factor for success. Effective and ordered staff interaction, healthy customer associations and efficient client organization are the backbone for a strong and flourishing cross cultural relationship.
Diverse language knowledge, foreign travel, etc. are needed for getting prepared for cross cultural communication. A few guidelines that can be kept in mind for boosting communication skills have been listed below.
­    Listening skills: the patience and ability to listen and grasp the words of the speaker is essential for getting an idea about the significance and thoughts of the presenter for a mutual understanding in the business that is to take place.
­    Speaking skills: speaking is as important as listening to a conversation which must include positive parts of speech such as affirmation, recognition, encouragement and expression of requests or opinions in a friendly manner.
­    Observation: watching and studying the different traits, behavioral features, body language, dressing sense etc. will give an idea about the variation that is exhibited by people of different cross cultural societies. The recognition of the differences between the cultures and awareness about them broadens the knowledge sphere about the needs for cross cultural communication.
­    Patience: in many situations the cultures across the borders might not be to the liking of all societies of people. In such cases tolerance and patience is necessary for a harmonious relationship with different cultures.
­    Flexibility: the ability to adapt, have an open mind and be flexible of body and mind helps greatly in building up a hale and hearty bond with people of different cultures. Mutual trust, respect and understanding are the strong foundations for long lasting cross cultural communication.
Keeping in mind these five points cross cultural communication and bonds can be strengthened to higher levels of success.
