			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Cultural awareness deserves large importance in the modern age because of the follies that occur by mistake when people are ignorant of the extent or magnitude of their simple blunder. Very often things done with a sense of humor or in a manner so as to please a group of people might find great protest from a separates section of the society who feels that the action was meant to ridicule or degrade or insult their beliefs and ideas. Now and then international stories of such kind find great value in the media and public which can even end with drastic consequences. A few examples of such blunders that have occurred across the nation include the tale of the Israeli tourists who kissed in a Hindu shrine, movie posters that seemed to offend Buddhists and the more recently iniquitous Prophet Muhammad cartoons.</p>
<p>One of the most recent dealings related to intercultural incompetence is again an event involving the Prophet of Islam. The incident took place at Sudan where a British teacher named Gillian Gibbons, 54, was charged of insulting Islam when she gave permission to her class on naming a teddy bear Muhammad. The accidental occurrence was labeled as an example of Muslim extremism and irrationality.</p>
<p>The unpleasant incident was however just an exaggeration of some over-sensitive parents as stated by Mr. Khalid al Mubarak, member of the Sudanese embassy situated in London. Most Muslims regard this to be a simple judgmental error that occurred due to the ignorance of the respect that is duly offered to in Islam to the prophet. After the incident many people conscious of the teachers’ innocence have come out publicly in support of her.</p>
<p>The Ramadhan foundation testifies about the disgraceful decision and makes clear the fact that the teacher was innocent and did not intentionally carry out any action in the idea of offending the Muslim beliefs. Ms Gibbons’ students and their parents are all on the side of the teacher, ready to give evidence for her virtuousness. The Ramadhan foundation has asked up on the immediate intervention of the Sudanese President Umar al-Bashir in the case and the freedom of the teacher has been sought out from this shocking ordeal.</p>
<p>According to the Ramadhan foundation the event was not worth enough to cause the arrest or detention of a teacher especially when the incident occurred due to her ignorance. This can stand as a lesson to all people going to foreign lands that knowledge about their adopted land, the ethics, traditions and beliefs to be followed in those countries have to be known and acknowledged by the people. The whole affair took place because of lack of knowledge which could have been thoughtfully avoided by simple cultural awareness courses.</p>
<p>Cultural awareness courses on Islam give huge reverence to the Prophet. Muhammad is believed to be the best of creation and the messenger who brought final messages of God to mankind. Such incidents are eye openers for the ultimate need of cultural awareness training especially for people going to foreign lands whether it is for work, leisure or a living. A few basic cultural awareness tips that can be kept in mind for a smooth life ahead have been noted as follows:</p>
<p>·    Books, journals, magazines, etc. any similar source can be referred for information on the things that should be done and those things that one should be careful about when entering a new foreign place.<br />
·    Assistance can be sought out from the internet and related websites.<br />
·    Take some effort in learning the new language or at least a bit of how to communicate in a new place.<br />
·    Friends or relatives in the new land can be approached for any important points that one is unaware of.<br />
·    The local customs and dress codes of the new location should be given needful respect. Any odd behavior that might offend the nationals will turn out be highly costly for the new people.<br />
·    Any doubt can be simply solved by observing the locals and following their lead.</p>
<p>Cultural awareness expands the knowledge sphere of people making them more accustomed to the foreign land and aware of the potential dangers that can occur by chance in the new place.</p>

But those in the grips of Obama Comedown Syndrome began to wonder if His stuff actually made sense. For instance, His Hopeness tells rallies that we are the change we have been waiting for, but if we are the change we have been waiting for then why have we been waiting since we’ve been here all along?”<br />
Once this was published many things came criticizing this opinion. For instance in 2008 on February 25th, Gideon Rachman of the Financial Times wrote in his article on “Obama and the art of empty rhetoric” that this even though Obama is someone with great potentials his above statement made him feel like admitting to fall asleep at the time of Winston Churchill’s “fight them on the beaches “ words. He even commented that many of the phrases used by Mr.Obama were empty-headed and it had no connection with his deeds in his daily life.<br />
This is not that big an issue since we all know that politicians hardly ever mean what they say and hardly ever say what they mean.  To consider that opinionated oratory should be reasonable then it should give off substance, should put into words that competence is the kind of thing one might hear in a political science class and it is on the other hand not what will guarantee political success. In addition, to analyze and pore over content in political speeches misses the point entirely. Pertinent in vocalizations is not the logic of content but how the speech as a whole is emotionally professed.<br />
One of the factors for the success of Mr. Barack Obama is his intercultural competence with which what I try to explain is: Keep it simple, stay on message, and keep your message open. “Yes we can” is alluring for the reason that it decisively does not address what we can.<br />
For a culturally diverse nation like United States of America, to communicate effectively one needs to be competent interculturally. By this what I meant is to bring down your message to the lowest common denominator. In detail: One way of communicating effectively athwart cultures irrespective of male and female, young and old, urban and rural folk live in diverse cultures that are usually divided into an assortment of sub-cultures which is to rely on generalizations. To be more clear it better to think of a pictogram at the airport.<br />
United States is being inhabited by immigrants from all over the world. According to the repot created at National Virtual Translation center number of languages spoken by the people at America is 311. This clearly defines that people from different cultures joined together since they share a common vision for growth and establishment.<br />
Barack Obama and the citizens in the region of him has understood so well that there continue living a unfathomable layer of the comatose that the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung defined as the collective unconscious for a term that indicates that there is, more clear in the words of Joseph Campbell, “a common humanity built into our nervous system out of which our mind&#8217;s eye works.” Vocabularies like ‘change’ and ‘hope’ faucet into this general humanity and are felt as inspiring always.</p>

Culture shapes the behavior of individuals. The leaders of the company are expected to be skilled in handling people of different cultures. They should grab the core of each culture as early as possible. Effective intercultural leadership is a long route but not tough. It will give rise to greater flexibility and creativity<br />
Working across cultures has become a way of life at present. And intercultural communication is a challenge. Learning the culture, communication style and behavior of others will make the people of different culture closer. Reading of books of established academicians like Geert Hofstede, Fons Trompenaars, David Hall etc will go a long way in dealing with ins and outs of culture.<br />
Apart from gaining information from websites and books, certain points given below can help improve intercultural communication abilities of individuals. These tips can go a long way in achieving the objective regarding the issue.<br />
1. Study cultures from people around you. You can take the help from websites.<br />
2. Respect the other culture. Observe individuals of other cultures. That will pave way for close relationship with the members of that culture.<br />
3. Get trained by intercultural specialists. You will then realize what effects the culture has on you.<br />
4. Participate in events that will expose you to different culture. Watch how people communicate with each other.<br />
5. Humor is an international term. There is none in the world who does not like humor. So induce some humor when dealing with them. But ensure that your joke is mistaken for an insult.<br />
6. Watch your own communication style.  Make necessary corrections where necessary and do your best to improve.  Thereby set an example for others. Make a note as to how good you are at communication, how clean and clear are your words.<br />
7. Be prepared for uncertainty. It is bound to be there while dealing in business across different cultures. You cannot expect concrete answers and exactly at the time you want.<br />
8. Wait patiently. You will have to allow for some time for the knowledge to come. Working in an intercultural environment may be tiresome. Things may not as easy and fast as you wish. Patience can be considered to be the need of the hour.<br />
9. Watch your progress. Make necessary corrections and adjustments where required.<br />
10. Be ready to apologize for your mistakes. That will only take you closer to the People and you will be appreciated. Take help when necessary. Clear your doubts. Do not make assumptions. Make a cross examination of yourself. Avoid conflict with others. Do not blame them for minor faults. For example, you may be very strict with time. This may not be the case with all. So be flexible. Understand that different cultures have different principles and rules.<br />
It has been established that the culturally different group can bee usually the most imaginative and lively. To realize their potential the business houses have to take intercultural communication as a serious matter.</p>

Intercultural awareness goes a long way in eliminating misunderstandings caused by intercultural differences. Resultantly it improves business potential. Intercultural awareness is inevitable in business presentation. Business personnel, who have to deliver presentations regularly to an audience from a different culture, have to consider the following factors for successful presentation which will ultimately have a bearing on their business.</p>
<p><strong>Language: </strong>Though the majority of the language will be understood by an English speaking foreign audience, a speaker must be careful about jargon, idioms, phrases etc. Englishmen frequently use terms like &#8220;knocked for six&#8221;, &#8220;bowled over&#8221; etc. The audience may be puzzled. When an American refers to a &#8216;billion&#8217; he means a thousand million, whereas in the UK this would mean a million ‘million’. Always remember that Language must convey the meaning to the audience.</p>
<p><strong>Body Language: </strong>Pay attention to the body language. Hand gestures and the expression of emotion through the body are acceptable to some. Others expect speakers to remain calm. Similarly pay attention to the use of gestures. The thumbs up may mean &#8216;good&#8217; in the USA but not so in some Afro-Asian countries. Eye contact can also be a major intercultural difference. For some strong eye contact is a sign of sincerity, for certain others it is a matter of arrogance and invasion of privacy.</p>
<p><strong>Time: </strong>Study the different approaches to time across cultures. Some go for a planned approach to business matters giving importance to time and punctuality whereas some other cultures are not particular about it. Maintain proper rigidity and flexibility with respect to the particular culture.</p>
<p><strong>Emotions:</strong> Sometimes the presentations may be in the presence of a small mass and may be with respect to sensitive issues in tense atmosphere. That may call for control of emotions. Do not lose temper and do not show frustration. Never lose patience. Otherwise you will risk your trustworthiness. If you are asked questions, try to understand that they are being posed only to establish facts, not to undermine you.</p>
<p><strong>Style of Presentation:</strong> .Always bear in mind the needs of the target culture. For example, in the US the presenter speaks from a point rather towards a point. That is to say the presentation is bottom-line oriented. On the other hand the Europeans prefer a detailed presentation, starting from the foundation, going on step by step towards the end. The audience will have no problem in understanding this. Other countries may have their own style.</p>
<p><strong>Use of Technology: </strong>In advanced countries, Power Point is the method of giving a presentation. But in under developed countries Over Head Projector may be ideal. And there are countries where they prefer blackboard. Some cultures get confused with visual presentations. They like words.</p>
<p><strong>Content: </strong>Take care that your presentation satisfies the audience. If so your objective is met. Find out whether a visual presentation is okay; or whether they want a speech.</p>
<p><strong>Audience Participation:</strong> In some cultures audience enjoy active participation. Some others refrain from participating. They are happy just to listen. Audiences show respect in different ways. Japanese listen closing their eyes. In the United States and European countries a good point is appreciated with clapping of hands.</p>
<p>Given above are only a few major points, which can improve individual’s awareness of intercultural differences in business. There are many more.</p>

Apart from people of these four courtiers, UK has large populations not only from Asia but also from courtiers like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada etc. Naturally there is a mixture of all these culture in UK.<br />
“The British have strong emotions though they do not display it in public. They are very much reserved.   They do not want their privacy to be disturbed. They will never interfere in others’ affairs also.<br />
They are generally reserved, and at the outset they may not seem to be friendly. Friendships take quite sometime to build; but once built it may be deep and everlasting.<br />
As already mentioned UK comprise people from a large number of countries. As a result there is an interesting mix of culture and communication styles.  The British are direct and unassuming while communicating with people they consider equal to themselves. The may be quite casual while communicating with someone they know well although they will still be reserved. Official written correspondence is strictly as per protocol.<br />
The British business gives value to punctuality. Coming late will never be tolerated. In general, meetings will be rather formal. In the meetings, the senior most person will be leading the discussions. Meetings always have a clearly defined purpose.</p>
<p>Intercultural communications field has become prominent in all sorts of spheres, may it be trade, commerce politics, education and what not. a cultural difference  will  have undesirable  effect on the prospects of business.<br />
The clash is there both in international level and national level. No doubt it brings about challenges.<br />
The objective of Intercultural communication training is to reduce the harmful effect the culture can have on the day to day business. Every culture has its own norms, manners, values etc which may not be acceptable to other cultures. Consequently there is bound to be misunderstanding. The training should nullify this to a great extend, which will ultimately have a bearing on the business development.<br />
Let us look at UK business culture. The British are well known for punctuality. They are very particular about time management. For them time is precious. The same may not be the case with people of many other countries.<br />
The British give importance to humor while they talk. They presume that this will take them closer to people. A Japanese colleague may not be able to digest this initially.<br />
Inspiration, suggestions, criticism, etc. are all part of a British corporate meeting. This may not be the case in certain other countries. So when a person of that culture visits UK, he may be a fish out of water. There is going to be cultural imbalance and misunderstandings in both directions.<br />
